Creative Writing GPD is a Finalist for the LA Times Book Prize

Emerson College prides itself on having outstanding faculty. During my time here, several professors have had books published: Jessica Treadway, Dewitt Henry, Steve Yarbrough, and Dan Tobin among many others. It is always exciting when a professor’s work is nominated for prestigious awards.

Recently, Creative Writing Graduate Program Director, Rick Reiken, became a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Fiction Book Prize.  Rick Reiken’s book, Day for Night, is competing against Jennifer Egan’s A Visit from the Goon Squad, Rick Bass’s Nashville Chrome, Something is Out There which is a collection of stories by Richard Bausch, and Jonathan Franzen’s Freedom.  The award will be announced the night before the weekend-long Festival of Books which will be held on the University of Southern California campus from April 30-May 1.

Day for Night presents a large cast of characters whose lives and stories are intertwined, focusing on one woman who left Europe with her mother during WWII. For more information on Rick’s nomination, take a look at the LA Times article. We wish the best of luck to Rick.
