With 2,750 freshmen and 2,150 transfer students projected to attend California State University, Fresno in the fall, Dog Days 2011 began today with the first of 13 orientation sessions scheduled this summer.
The orientations, which run through July 20, will help prepare students new to campus for the fall semester, with instruction beginning Aug. 22.
This summer’s sessions are June 15, 17, 21, 23, 27, 29 and July 1, 6, 8, 12, 14, 18, 20.
Dog Days is open to the incoming students who registered for the orientation and paid the $55 fee and to their parents and guests. Check-in begins at 7:15 a.m. in front of the Joyal Administration Building. Each day’s program runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning in the Satellite Student Union.
All new undergraduates are expected to attend Dog Days, and the sessions are mandatory for freshmen, said Kenneth Ternate, coordinator of the program within the Division of Student Affairs.
During Dog Days, academic advisers from each college or school will be available to discuss general education and major academic requirements. Faculty and student leaders will answer questions and give insight into campus life. A career services presentation, campus resource fair, campus safety discussion and campus tours also are offered.
A session for parents/guests answers their questions about academics and co-curricular opportunities for students.
If applicable, the English Placement Test (EPT) and Entry-Level Mathematics Test (ELM) must be taken and scores received before registration for classes is permitted. The next ELM/EPT testing date is June 18.
