What’s at stake in the SMU-Rice game: Pride on the line for both teams

Rice (4-7, 3-4 C-USA) at SMU (6-5, 4-3), 11 a.m. CST Saturday (FSN)

Line: SMU by 13½

Series Record: SMU leads 47-40-1

Last Meeting: 2010, SMU 42-31

WHAT’S AT STAKE

Rice is trying to wrap up the school’s 100th football season with a victory, and trying to win a conference road game for the first time since 2008. SMU is trying to improve its bowl resume in a season that turned disappointing after an early-season upset of TCU.

KEY MATCHUP

Rice pass defense against SMU pass offense. While SMU has struggled at times with an offense that’s supposed to thrive through the air, the Owls are among the worst nationally defending the pass.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Rice QB Nick Fanuzzi plays his final game in a career that has him in the school’s top five for passing touchdowns, completions and yardage.

SMU RBs Jared Williams and Rishaad Wimbley are trying to replace the injured Zach Line. They couldn’t do it last week, combining for 30 yards on 17 carries in a 37-7 loss to Houston.
